Visiting Tango Maestros

March 10, 2014

Its that time of the year where it seems almost everyone I know is either in Buenos Aires right now, will be going soon or just got back. But thankfully, its also that time of the year when many maestros are here visiting us! We are very lucky to have these talented folks in town. Please take advantage of their upcoming workshops and classes.

Below is a list of visiting Tango instructors for the month of March.

Cecilia GonzalesCecilia González

Cecilia is a world-famous performer and teacher from Buenos Aires. She visits and teaches here in San Francisco on a yearly basis.  We are very lucky to have her and she is definitely a tango legend.

Cecilia is well respected by the Buenos Aires tango community and has taught and danced at numerous festivals around the world. Along the way she has partnered with some of the most famous tangueros of her generation: Osvaldo Zotto, Fabian Salas and Mariano ‘Chicho’ Frumboli, to name a few.

She is known for her technical precision, fluidity, elegance of movements and improvisation.

Her thorough knowledge and passion for teaching makes her a very appreciated and requested tango teacher. She is regularly invited to give workshops in Europe and North America since 1996. She has taught in Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and US.

These are her weekend workshops:

“Secret Moves for a Crowded Floor”
A workshop-length class, 7:30–9:00

Facundo de la Cruz & Paola Sanz

Facundo-Paola-Pareja

Facundo De La Cruz & Paola Sanz won the title of World Champions of Tango Salon at the 10th World Tango Championship in Buenos Aires on August 12, 2012. They are talented representatives of a generation of young dancers who are dedicated to the art and tradition of salon tango. Hailing from the provinces of Cordoba and Chubut, Argentina, they have honed their dance for more than ten years, four of which have been together. Their independent exploration of the essence of tango salon, elegance, connection, and musicality, has allowed them to create a dance that is unique, yet traditional. After winning several tango competitions in the provinces, they moved to Buenos Aires, where they are teaching and performing in many prominent venues. Facundo is known for his crisp enrosques and sharp syncopations, and Paola for her delicate and elegant footwork.

This is their second year here and are in high demand.

Santiago & Amy

Santiago_Amy_March2014Santiago & Amy are a very popular teaching couple here in the Bay Area, known not only for their exact teaching at Tango Escuela but their kind and gregarious personalities. They now travel continuously around the U.S. and Europe as well as much time in Buenos Aires, but do stop back at least once or twice a year to offer Tango Escuela, 4-week sessions.

As a professional couple Santiago and Amy have been dancing Tango Salon together since 2007. They’ve studied with and learned from different master teachers and milongueros, always prevailing traditional Tango Salon.

They focus their tango on the subtleties of the embrace, the elegance, the connection and the quality of movement. They come from a place of rudimentary knowledge and deep technique. They transmit in their dance, as in their lessons, the importance of celebrating tango from the intimacy of the embrace and the unique encounter of two people.

They have been invited to be part of the most important and acclaimed International Tango Festivals sharing the cast with most prestigious masters of tango.

This their Bay Area schedule for the month of March:

SAN FRANCISCO: Tuesdays from 8 to 10pm – La Pista
MONTEREY: Wednesdays from 8 to 10 – Pacific Grove Studios
SAN JOSE: Saturdays from 6 to 8pm – CPAA.
OAKLAND: Sundays from 4:30pm to 6pm – Studio 1924

Note for San Francisco Tango Escuela – This successful program starting on March 25th encloses a complete vision of Argentine Tango: full technique, the culture of the dance, understanding the mechanisms and the relationship between the couple. It gives the tools to resolve issues of both ones own dance and the couple’s, allowing the individual to fully enjoy the dance.
