Saying Hello

April 21, 2019

¡¡Hola!!

We’re excited to announce that Maika has handed the reins of running SF Loves Tango over to us – Jonas and Xiaomin!

We live in the East Bay and have enjoyed dancing throughout the Bay for over a decade. We’ve seen the rise of many tango events and venues and said farewell to almost as many in that time. On a regular basis, we teach and dance tango, though we both have our own non-tango jobs for work, and are lucky enough to be able to travel outside of the area a number of times a year to other parts of the county and even to international destinations for tango.

On a typical foggy weekend in San Francisco, a couple of years back, we decided to hike the trails just south of the Golden Gate Bridge. The weather was tricky that day when fast moving clouds and fog would take their turn at mostly hiding the sun. Lucky for us, it wasn’t too windy or cold, so we were able to enjoy the hike.

A memorable moment of the hike was when we encountered the Battery Crosby, a historic US military gun battery that protected the Golden Gate in the early 1900s. On the concrete overlook of the structure, with the Bridge as our background, we found some open space, where, as many tango dancers often consider when encountering any open space, our first thought was, “could we dance on it…?”

And so we did. For like a minute. And took a video. The picture is a screen capture/artistic edit of one of our most enjoyable moments. A nice memory of the day capturing our LOVE OF SF TANGO!

We are looking forward to writing and curating information about tango here in the SF Bay Area, and are honored to continue Maika’s mission for the website, as she has stated, “…to celebrate the San Francisco Tango community, support everyone that is involved and share it with the world.”

We hope you enjoy sharing this tango journey with us!

With love,
Jonas & Xiaomin
