Studio 1924 Slumberlonga

August 25, 2014

Do you often wish the milongas would last longer?  Do you wish you could dance in your PJs?  Then the upcoming slumberlonga is just what you need.

Starting this coming Sunday, August 31st, Count and Melissa will be hosting their third Slumberlonga at studio 1924.

The upcoming Slumberlonga celebrates the second anniversary of Studio 1924 and also takes advantage of the long weekend. Can you believe it’s been two years? Count and Melissa have done an amazing job creating a friendly milonga that invites mingling and socializing. Over the past two years there have been numerous improvements made to the space and it continues to get better and better.  Studio 1924 Milonga has also maintained a consistent Sunday crowd, quite a feat in itself considering the multitude of milongas in the Bay Area.

The last Slumberlonga on September 1, 2013 proved to be a fun, sleep-deprived evening. Many worked their way around the Bay Bridge closure and the Oakland Pride barricades to get to the celebration. Others brought proposals to work on in-between tandas or came straight from Burning Man. DJs Vincent, Luz, Yuling, and Cristian kept the dancers going for seventeen hours! Plus, there was a pancake breakfast for those who made it to the end. Who will make it to the end this year?

This years Slumberlonga promises to be even better. Here’s some of the highlights:

  • Four great DJs promising to keep you on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning: Vincent Wong, Yuling Chen, Jonas Aquino, and Varo Biagi.
  • Plenty of food (including a taco bar!)
  • Extra seating and couches to crash on during the event

Wear your nicest pajamas or at least comfy tango clothes that are good for dancing and sleeping. Keep in mind, you do not have to stay in the milonga the whole time. Last year a few people went home to refresh and returned again to keep dancing until dawn. The dancing and music around 4-6am usually is the most entertaining as people start to get a little wonky from sleep deprivation.
