No Panic at Antipanico

August 6, 2012

The third annual Antipanico Tango Festival held in in San Francisco’s Mission district not only survived it’s third year but it flourished. So, the headliners, Sebastian and Mariana had to cancel less than a month before the event, but that did not keep the Tango addicts from showing up and the event being enjoyed by everyone.  Both Friday and Saturday night, dancers continued on until 5:00am. Very impressive indeed! I must give a shout out to the DJ’s who were all incredible, and kept everyone wanting to stay on the dance floor.  The options of food, wine and beer was a smart addition to this year’s festival. Plus the coffee donated by Mark at Epicenter and the Hummus by Oren and Nancy was absolutely delish! (Note to self: must visit Oren’s Hummus Shop in Palo Alto)

Each and every one of the Maestros graciously shared their knowledge during the workshops and were forever patient with the dancers of all levels who wished to dance like them.

The performances were also amazing.  Fabian Peralta & Josefina Bermudez performed on Friday night, and gave us two encore dances on top of their two prior performances. Their understated elegance was truly appreciated by the crowd.

On Saturday, both Joe & Lucila plus Donato  & Carolina gave us  incredible shows. Donato and Carolina are such a great match for each other, executing very difficult colgadas, volcadas and drops with incredible ease and smoothness. And Joe and Lucila create such exciting and entertaining performances with excellent choreography and musicality. It really is a treat to have them here in San Francisco.

Also on Saturday, Seth Asarnow y Su Sexteto Típico played two sets for us Tango enthusiasts, and really sounded incredible.  If I did not see them performing in front of me, I would have thought it was a recording. They were THAT flawless!

Cheers to the gals of Tango Renaissance and all the volunteers for putting on an another successful San Francisco Tango Festival!
