Dancing Tango at Union Square

May 3, 2012

Trio Garufa - Tango in the Square
Dancers brave the cold at Union Square to hear Trio Garufa play live. Definitely worth it!

All summer long and well into the fall, San Francisco hosts a series of free outdoor concerts and performance in the heart of the city at Union Square.  And that means FREE Tango with Live Music!

The inaugural Tango in the Square was last night, and Trio Garufa serenaded us with two sets of beautiful Tangos, vals, milongas and a few folkloric and original pieces thrown in.  (Side note – I heard their new CD “El Rumor de tus Tangos” will be available for purchase on cdbaby very soon!)

Union Square really is a delightful place to enjoy live music and dance. For one, it’s great to dance outdoors in the middle of San Francisco. Two, there is a lovely Italian cafe nearby to get hot coffee, tea or wine. And three, live Tango music! Plus did I mention it’s FREE?

Tango in the Square happens every 1st Wednesdays from 6 – 8pm through the summer.

Event includes live music from our top local Tango musicians plus performances and free introductory lessons.

Upcoming Wednesdays (mark these in your calendar):
June 6 – Tango Number 9
July 4 – Redwood Tango Ensemble
Sept 5 – Tangonero

This event is a part of San Francisco Parks & Trust’s “Jewels in the Square” program for Union Square Park and brought to us by:  The Bay Area Tango Association.

See you there!
